THE FORD LOFT

FOLK STUDIO

Nestled in Sydney’s vibrant Surry Hills, this NYC loft-style apartment underwent a thoughtful transformation led by Folk Studio founder Mariah Burton. Covering just 119 square metres, the two-bedroom home presented unique challenges, requiring innovative design solutions to maximise functionality without compromising on style.

Filled with warm tones and beautiful light, it’s a blend of industrial charm and refined elegance, as featured on The Design Files.

While the apartment’s structural integrity and loft-style architecture provided a strong foundation, its minimal furnishings left room for a complete interior refresh. This allowed Mariah to work with a blank canvas, focusing on enhancing the apartment’s personality through custom joinery, vibrant palettes, and layered materials with a curation of bold marbles.

With a playful yet sophisticated aesthetic, the apartment has been carefully curated and feels effortlessly beautiful.

The beautiful master bedroom features our Naomi Nightstand in solid walnut timber paired with a Calacatta Viola marble top. The marble, walnut timber, herringbone flooring, and opulent draped curtains make this room effortlessly sophisticated while maintaining a distinct personality.

"Honouring the apartment's traditional and raw elements, we emphasized its original character and enriched the space with a diverse selection of stones, linens, artworks, and sculptural lighting. Pulling from this deep maroon, we introduced an array of viola marble and the red vintage Turkish checked rug."

Our Franca Calacatta Viola and Cookie Rosa Levanto side tables can be seen in the living room, tying together the unique tonal palette that is seen throughout the space.

For a creative couple returning to city life after a stint in Byron Bay, the space needed to balance practicality with artistic expression. The apartment now exudes warmth and creativity, a personalised sanctuary that reflects the owners’ artistic spirits.

Situated in a repurposed luggage factory, this loft harmoniously blends industrial heritage with refined design elements. By layering vibrant colors and carefully curated furnishings, Folk Studio has created a home that radiates character, style, and a distinct sense of place.
