Material Guide: Timber

A step-by-step guide on how to care for your Timber.

When cared for correctly, timber will age like fine wine becoming a future heirloom that will last decades. As a natural material, it characterises over time, adapting to its environment and use.

Wear and tear is an inevitable quality of most materials, but there are ways to slow this process with your timber. Here are some simple steps to clean and maintain your timber pieces.

1. Maintenance & Care

If placed close to a fireplace or in a heavily air-conditioned environment, this will create movement in the timber.

Avoid placing hot items like drinks directly onto surfaces and always use drink coasters, placemats or tablecloths.

Apply protective pads to the undersides of items displayed on countertops to help avoid scratching the timber.

2. Cleaning

Clean the surface frequently with a clean damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. Avoid oils, butter and grease including spills of these liquids.

When cleaning, avoid harsh chemical cleaning products, instead we recommend choosing a cleanser that is free of acidic detergents, bleach and abrasive properties.

A natural hard wax (clear matte finish) can be applied to further help retain the showroom finish every 12 months.

3. Caring for Your Elio Leather Dining Chair

The Elio Dining Chair features 100% full-grain semi-aniline leather, designed to age beautifully and naturally with you over time. Leather is a natural material and slight variations in texture, tone or small unique markings are features that certify its quality.

Regular Care

For best upkeep, we suggest regular cleaning with a soft, dry cloth to remove residual dust and prevent buildup. Avoid using brushes, as bristles can damage the leather. Keep your chair away from direct sunlight and heat sources to protect the leather from fading or losing its soft, supple feel over time.

Spills & Spot Cleaning

Spills are inevitable, but fresh spills are always easier to address than old ones. Here's our care guide:

  • For liquid spills: Blot immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth. Most liquids will initially be repelled by the leather, but if left standing, they will eventually absorb.
  • For butter, oil, or grease: Wipe gently with a clean, dry cloth.
  • For stubborn stains: Use a cloth lightly dampened with warm water to blot the stain. If needed, mix a small amount of mild soap with water, blot gently to release the stain, then blot again with a dry cloth. Avoid scrubbing, as this can damage the leather.

Do not use harsh cleaners, solvents, detergents, abrasives, bleach, or household cleaners - these can strip the protective finish from the leather.
