TASH SEFTON

TASTEMAKER SERIES

Talk us through a typical day in the life of Tash Sefton.

My day starts with a 6.30am wake up, for my son Mac to get ready for school. He catches a ferry to school (as we live on Sydney harbour) so after waving goodbye, my husband, Adam and I go for a run around the foreshore of Kirribilli, then floor pilates at home (we are also teaching ourselves Tai Chi). I work mostly from home in the morning and then head out for meetings, and errands. My day is structured around school or sport pick up.

Your personal style feels so intuitive. How has your approach to dressing evolved over time?

I think I have a very simple classic style, nothing over branded, trendy or complicated. I have to be comfortable and find myself always going up a size for a slouchy vibe…. And I love denim so most outfits are based on a denim piece. My style evolution is not wearing high heels, and only buying pieces with longevity….no fads!

You’re a stylist in every sense. Do you approach interiors the way you do your personal wardrobe?

I find interiors so much more interesting than fashion lately. But like my wardrobe, interiors is an investment, so every piece is thoughtful, considered and classic. I also source vintage pieces as I feel they add warmth and interest and love using them for layering and styling.

You recently wrapped up a huge renovation (are you taking roommate applications?!) What do you love most about your new space, and how did you make it feel like home?

HA well… my 19 year old son is always either at a night club or travelling, so maybe!

Our home is over 120 years old, so our renovation was very considered but the space needed freshness. The bones are incredible, with very high ceilings, mouldings and art deco stained glass doors and windows throughout. The biggest investment was taking up the old very damaged floor, and putting in European oak parquetry flooring. It has elevated the space beyond what we invisaged. My husband also collects mid century pieces so these look amazing back with the older elements of the space.

Must-have pieces from our collection?

I love your marble pieces, as they will elevate any space (new or old), and I love they are modern yet classic.
